The pneumovax vaccine will protect against 23 types of pneumococcal bacteria.
BCG vaccinein Surrey
The BCG vaccine protects against TB. It is generally given to younger people as the BCG vaccine is not as effective in adults.
Some adults who work in healthcare or who have a higher risk of contracting the disease may be offered the BCG vaccine.
At The Levitas Clinic in Esher, we will take a blood test for anyone over the age of 6 before administering the vaccine. Once the results are back, we can determine whether the BCG vaccine is needed.
Chickenpox vaccine in Surrey
Chickenpox is a common childhood infection which is mostly mild and has no complications. Almost all children catch chickenpox and then develop immunity, so you are unlikely to get it more than once.
The infection is more serious in adults and for certain people, chickenpox can be dangerous. These include:
- Pregnant women – chickenpox can be extremely dangerous for the unborn baby as it can affect them badly and cause a range of defects
- People with weakened immune systems due to illnesses such as HIV or because of receiving treatments like chemotherapy
If you are a healthcare worker who has never had chickenpox, or if you are close to someone with a weak immune system, it would be worthwhile for you to have the chickenpox vaccine.
At The Levitas Clinic in Surrey, the chickenpox vaccine is given as 2 separate injections with 4 to 8 weeks between them. Having 2 doses will offer better protection.
Shingles vaccine in Surrey for people over 55
Shingles is more common in older people, especially those over the age of 70 and the older you are, the more painful it can be.
A single dose of the shingles vaccine will reduce your chances of developing shingles.
You can still have the vaccine if you’ve already had shingles before as it will boost your immunity and prevent you from getting it again.
A vaccine against shingles should give you protection for about 5 years.
HPV vaccine in Esher
Young people aged 12 to 13 can have the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
The vaccine helps to protect against cancers including cervical cancer, some mouth and throat cancers and some cancers found in the anal and genital areas.
Two doses of the HPV vaccine are needed to ensure sufficient protection.
Influenza vaccine in Surrey
The flu vaccine is offered every year to protect people from becoming seriously ill with the flu.
Flu is spread by coughs and sneezes and can leave you feeling tired for many weeks.
Whilst you can get it at any time of the year, it is best to get the flu vaccine during the autumn before flu starts spreading.
You should especially consider getting the flu vaccine if you are over 50, have health conditions, are pregnant, live in residential care, live with someone who is more likely to be at risk from getting infections or if you work in healthcare.
